Congratulations to our Reflections Participants and Winners!

Each year for the last 40 years, the nationally recognized, PTA Arts in Education Reflections Program challenges students to create art, inspired by a specific theme.

The Goochland Elementary School PTA wants to thank everyone who participated this year by submitting an entry for the theme: “Together we can…”

Our 1st place winners will move up to the COUNTY competition. All of our participants were recognized in morning announcements last week and presented with a certificate. They also will be recognized at the next school Honors assembly in January and at a school board meeting in the Spring of next year (2011).

We have 6 entries moving to county competition: Visual Arts primary and intermediate, Photography primary and intermediate, Literature intermediate and Film Production primary. First place entries for county will move up to Regional. 

A BIG THANKS to everyone from the Goochland Arts community and the Goochland school community who stepped up to assist us with judging the entries and to our faculty sponsor Mr. Tom Case who guides us all through the process every year.

Let's Get Creative! Reflections contest submissions due by November 1

The 2010 PTA Nationally sponsored Arts in Education Reflections Program 
is here again at Goochland Elementary! Students are strongly encouraged to participate in this national, creative arts contest!

Every year, students from around the country submit original work centered around one theme. This is such a great opportunity to express your creativity, but you must begin working on your entry now! This year’s theme is

“Together We Can”

It presents many opportunities for self-expression.  Think about how you could respond to this theme.  What’s important to you? … and get started. You might decide to write an essay, create a painting or make a video!

 Students may submit more than one entry, in more than one category, but each entry requires an entry form. There are rules such as: Each submission must be accompanied by an entry form signed by a parent. No names on front of submissions. We use a “blind judging” process. Names must be written on the back side of submissions. Follow all the rules for your category. They can be found on the Reflections website.

2010 Reflections Program

 This year's Reflections program theme is: 

"Together We Can"

Each year, the PTA Reflections Program challenges students to create art inspired by a specific theme, and students submit entries to a local PTA or PTSA. Nationally, the program has six arts areas—dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts—and four grade divisions—primary, intermediate, middle/junior, and senior.

Specific deadlines for our school will be announced as it becomes available. However, please consider getting to work on your entry now. Deadlines for entries tend to be in mid-autumn.

In past years, we have been fortunate to have wonderful teachers like Mr. Tom Case who volunteer their time as a faculty advisor to accept and help judge the entries. However, the PTA needs parent volunteers to assist with this process as well as help in the promotion of the contest. If this is something you are interested in, please contact the PTA president Leah Hopkins or sign up at Back to School night.

2009 Reflections Program

Congratulations GES Reflections Winners!

E-mail notifications went out today and will be distributed through school folders. Winners will be recognized at the Awards Assembly on Feb. 11th at GES. Look for the entries on display in the main hallway at school!   
Some of our students also placed in the County Competition and will be recognized at a county-wide assembly in March!

2008 Relections Program

The 2008-2009 PTA Reflections program awards ceremony for Goochland County has been planned for next week! Those students whose entries placed at the county level will be recognized at a ceremony on Tuesday, February 10 at 6:00 P.M. prior to the school board meeting. The ceremony will be held at Goochland High School in the auditorium. A cake and punch reception will follow.

Mr. Tom Case is the faculty adviser for this program. In the past, he has collected the work and organized it for judging. However, leadership for this program needs to come from the local PTA and its volunteers as it is a PTA sponsored enrichment program.
